Project Summary

In this project, an automatic titration system which is used for the determination of Ca and Mg nutrients in soil has been developed. Titration is a quantitative analysis method used to determine the unknown concentration of an analyte. In this method, one solution of a known concentration (called a titrant) is slowly added to analyte and endpoint of the reaction is indicated by a color change. In conventional titrations, this color change is detected by the human eye. Because of this reason, it has some disadvantages such as low sensitivity, low accuracy, and the risk of missing the endpoint during the analysis and pre-treatments.

The project aims to detect the color change at the endpoint automatically by using a color sensor. With the color sensor, the color change is automatically determined on digitalized images using image processing techniques and all data is saved by a specially developed software program. Performing titrations with automation titration system (OTS) eliminate the analysis errors and provide accurate analysis results for 4 simultaneous 24 (12 Ca and 12 Ca-Mg) samples.
